Description:

1983 Retro Cheyne Horan board shaped for his winged keel fin.   This board represents an interesting time in surfing's history.  When Cheyne first unvealed the design it was thought by many he had finally lost it and was just going off on some tangent to be different just to bring attention to himself.    Later that year opinions would change when he would defeat 1983's eventual world title winner Tom Carroll at the Bell's beach contest.

Mark Richards and Shaun Tomson made comments at the time that it was the best they have seen Cheyne surf in a couple of years.  Cheyne when on a run with these shapes and with his keel fin, placing in more than a few finals.     Many surfers today may have forgotten other past shapes, but this shape and winged keel fin along with his earlier Lazor Zap Mccoys are usually called Cheyne Horan boards.   A lasting tribute to one of the sports most influential, talented and free thinkers.

The board picture is fully tinted and has a boat like nose to control the lift created by the Winged keel and add addtional speed in the flats and coming out of bottom turns.

Enjoy a bit of surfing's history.
